I love building complex gearboxes, follow long drive-trains, and see all the gears work together to result into a function. So a completely remote controlled vehicle should be perfect, shouldn't it? Well, I have one big criteria when it comes to Technic sets: I need to be amazed. ![]() Once the build is done, it should still hold some play value for me. I am not someone who builds sets just to display them or they need to have some sort of nostalgic or geek value for. Technic is probably my favorite LEGO theme. A lot of you won't agree with me, as this is one of the most popular Technic sets out there (most owned set for 2014, #3 on all-time list on Rebrickable), so before you stone me, let me explain. ![]() ![]() I see buying the 42030-1 as one of my biggest mistakes in my LEGO life (right after selling my 8880-1 Supercar). I was directly reminded of the 42030-1 Remote-Controlled Volvo 元50F Wheel Loader, which shares these features. When this set was first announced, I immediately disliked it, because of 3 reasons: Volvo, remote controlled, and articulated steering. I'm re-learning an important lesson: Don't make a judgement before you have all the facts. ![]()
